J&M Farm designated SC Century Farm

The South Carolina Century Farms Program announces a second Oconee County Farm has been designated.  The J&M Farm is now listed as a Century Farm. Vicki Fletcher, Executive Director of the Pendleton District Commission serving Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties gives details, “J&M Farm is currently owned by Joe and Marcetta Black of Earle’s Grove. The farm was purchased by the family in 1913 and has been continuously owned by the family since then. The Century Farms Program was created to honor families who have owned and farmed the same land for at least 100-years. The program was created in 1974 for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. In 1976, the South Carolina Legislature expanded it into a statewide program. Since 1974, over 350 properties have been designated as Century Farms.” The Pendleton District Commission administers the Century Farms Program. The Century Farm designation places no restrictions on the farm and there is no cost to apply. For more information, visit [email protected].
