Judge Rules in Favor of Victim’s Estate in Wrongful Death Case

An 80-year-old woman was killed when she was crushed by a newly installed dumbwaiter in her Keowee Key home in June 2020. In a recent hearing, a judge ruled that $1.5 million would be awarded to settle the wrongful death case of Mary Susan Crerar vs. John Andrews and others. The victim’s daughter testified that her mother lost her life while measuring the bottom of the dumbwaiter for shelving paper, when the device suddenly and rapidly dropped, crushing her neck. The award includes $1 million in actual damages and $500,000 in punitive damages.
