Juveniles charged in break-in at Oakway Intermediate

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office charged three male juveniles, ages 14, 15 and 16, over the weekend after an investigation into a break-in at the Oakway Intermediate School. Deputies responded Friday evening to the school on School House Road in reference to a possible burglary. Once the deputies arrived on the scene, one of the deputies went to the location where the juveniles and the complainant were located, while the second deputy went inside with an employee to view the damage that had been reportedly done to the property. As the investigation commenced, the deputy discovered damage inside the school, which included a piece of furniture inside of the gym, plus damage to some of the doors and windows that were broken in the building. The parents of the juveniles were contacted and asked to come to the school so permission could be given for deputies to talk with the juveniles. The parents gave the officers permission to speak with the suspects in the case. Based upon the evidence gathered, all three juveniles were charged with one count of each of burglary in the second degree and malicious injury to personal property. The case has been referred to the Department of Juvenile Justice and will be adjudicated in Family Court. Due to the age of the juveniles and with the case being remanded to the Department of Juvenile Justice, the names of those charged will not be released by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office.
