Keowee Elementary celebrates Arbor Day

The Service Learning Club at Keowee Elementary School hosted a school-wide poetry contest to highlight the importance of trees in advance of this year’s Arbor Day on Friday, Dec. 5. Students in grades k-5 wrote a variety of creative, tree-themed poems. Winners received a pine tree to take home and plant as well as the opportunity to read their poems on the school’s morning news program. The K-2 winner was Ashlynn Denny from second grade and the 3-5 winner was Carlee Gansen from fourth grade. Along with the contest, second grade students will participate in a tree planting ceremony today at 1pm hosted by the Lake and Hills Garden Club.
