Keowee Elementary School celebrates Reading

KES Read Across AmericaEvery spring, Keowee Elementary School students and staff celebrate Read Across America by participating in a week of reading events. This year, guest readers from various schools and the district office visited classrooms to share favorite children’s books. Students dressed in crazy socks and many colors to celebrate Dr. Seuss’s books, Fox in Socks and My Many Colored Days. Classes in the school also participated in a door decorating contest where the winning classrooms received gift certificates to the spring book fair. To end the weeklong celebration, students and teachers participated in the annual book character parade, where everyone dressed as their favorite book character. Rachel Smith, Keowee’s Media Specialist, said, “Read Across America is always a favorite event at Keowee that allows everyone show their love of reading.”
