Keowee Elementary to participate in Earth Day

Keowee Elementary announces its participation in the 21st annual Earth Day Groceries Project. Students have decorated paper grocery bags with environmental messages. On Earth Day, April 22, these bags will be passed out, full of groceries to shoppers at Ingles in West Union. Besides carrying an environmental message, each bag will also have the name of Keowee Elementary School and children’s artwork. Those receiving these bags will learn that the students at Keowee Elementary care about their environment. This is the 21st year this international educational effort has been coordinated on the Internet. It is a nonprofit, grassroots effort. The project started in 1994, with 43 schools reporting the decoration and distribution of 13,000 Earth Day Grocery Bags. Today the number of schools participating is approaching 2,000, with students decorating nearly half a million Earth Day Grocery Bags.
