Late Night Car Theft Leads to Arrest

A car was stolen late Sunday night from a residence on Fair Play Street in downtown Seneca. Reports stated that police attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle, but the suspect led police on a brief chase. However, the vehicle that was stolen – a 2005 Ford Escape – was in need of maintenance and couldn’t go faster than about 45 miles per hour.

Police were able to bring the short pursuit to an end, with the help of Oconee County Deputies, when stop sticks were deployed. The suspect was apprehended at the scene, which was outside the Seneca city limits, according to police.

The culprit was identified in reports by police only as a juvenile.
