Late Night Chase Ends in Oconee County

A suspect was arrested on Wednesday night after stealing an Anderson County deputy’s car during a chase. South Carolina Highway Patrol troopers began chasing the suspect’s vehicle on Interstate 85 South and requested assistance from the Anderson County Sheriff’s Office. During the pursuit, the suspect’s vehicle crashed into an 18-wheeler. When deputies went to arrest the suspect, he stole a deputy’s car, leading to another chase. The suspect crashed the deputy’s car near mile marker 1 in Oconee County and fled on foot. He was arrested after being located by a K9 and is receiving medical treatment. A deputy was injured during the second crash and was taken to the hospital. The South Carolina Highway Patrol, Anderson Police Department, Oconee County Sheriff’s Office, Hart County Sheriff’s Office, and the Department of Natural Resources participated in the search for the suspect.
