Local Businesses can earn Work Opportunity Tax Credit

Practical experience is the most valuable tool in training people with disabilities to achieve success in the workplace, according to the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. Employers who hire their clients can also earn a tax credit, explains Anna Connelly, business development specialist with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department. “Once someone is employed with a business, the business can apply and be eligible for a Work Opportunity Tax Credit and that is actually a federally sponsored program. It is up to $2,400 per person that is hired through Vocational Rehabilitation and there are of course a couple of requirements for that but the main one is that person has worked 400 hours in a year.” To learn more about Work Opportunity Tax Credits available to employers who hire clients with the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department, visit www.scvrd.net.
