Local Labor building New WHS

As the walls go up on the new Walhalla High School, the local economy is also rising.  Local labor is constructing the new school, explains Oconee County Schools Assistant Superintendent Dr. Michael Thorsland. “We are very proud of the fact that our contractor on site is Trehel, a company that was born right here in Oconee County and continues to have a very large local influence.  The School Board ask Trehel from the beginning to consider local subcontractors to build the school.  One of the main two masonry contractors on the site is a local Oconee County company.  The company that will be installing all the drywall in the school is a local Oconee County company.  We have many residents of Oconee County out there working, so it is kind of fun to go out there and see individuals whose children attend out schools actually building the new Walhalla High School.  So, it is a good thing.”  Opening of the new Walhalla High School is anticipated for August of 2015.  The new school is being built on the west side of Highway 11, one mile north of the Highway 183 intersection and a little more than three miles from the existing high school on Razorback Lane.
