Local Politicians ride the Bus

Two politicians could be seen riding the all-electric CAT buses Wednesday morning in Seneca. “I was riding the residential commercial transit route here in Seneca with Paul Cain of Oconee County Council. We set up a time to get together to allow Mr. Cain the opportunity to ride the bus and answer any questions he might have concerning public transportation. We got the opportunity to see people get on and off the bus, going to work and going to the shopping centers. It was just a great opportunity to share with Mr. Cain what public transportation is doing in this community.” Seneca Mayor Dan Alexander said he would love to see fare-free public transportation extended further in the county. “I would love to see public transportation go out but I also know that is going to take a commitment from someone besides Seneca to be able to make that happen.” Public transportation changes people’s lives, concludes Mayor Alexander. “I know that public transportation is very important to lives, it allows people to get to work and school. Lots of the different service organization, I work for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Department and many of our clients depend on public transportation to get back and fourth. Not only with Vocational Rehabilitation but also with other agencies have tremendous needs for our public transit to be larger than what it is now. So, people can get to the County Offices in Walhalla and get to other cities.” The mayor hopes in the near future that public transportation will be extended to other areas of the county.
