Man Charged with Attempted Murder; Couple Facing Burglary, Theft Accusations

Enrico Natfonza Mayes, 44, was arrested by the Oconee County Sheriff’s Office on Friday, August 25th. He was wanted for four charges, including two counts of attempted murder, one count of possessing a weapon during a violent crime, and one count of malicious injury to personal property. He has a total bond of $505,125 and will be required to wear an electronic monitoring device should he be released. Mayes remains in custody at the Oconee County Detention Center.

In an unrelated investigation, on Friday, a couple from North Carolina was arrested in Oconee County after an Oconee County Sheriff’s sergeant reportedly found them on Monday inside the Calvary Church of God on Long Creek Highway without permission. The man was found inside a closet, while the woman was found asleep on a futon-style bed.

The sheriff’s office investigation determined that the couple had unlawfully entered the building and used electricity without legal authority. The youth pastor became suspicious when he noticed a strange vehicle parked behind the fellowship hall and backed up to a shed.

The suspects were identified as Cory Jane Oshields, 30, and Steven Jeffery Oshields, 34. They are charged with burglary-3rd degree 1st offense and utilities/theft of electric current, both felonies.

Cory Jane Oshields had a bond of $11,000, and Steven Jeffery Oshields had a bond of $16,000. Both have been released from the Oconee County Detention Center.
