Man drowns on Lake Keowee

The Oconee County Coroner’s Office reports that a 20-year-old man drowned on Lake Keowee Tuesday evening. The man was identified as Michael Kevin Pruitt of Six Mile. The drowning happened a little after 5:30pm near the island known as “The Rock”. Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis said three people were crossing out to the island from the peninsula when Pruitt called out for help. A 13-year-old attempted to rescue Pruitt but had no success. Divers recovered Pruitt’s body at 6:10pm from the water and basic life support was given. Pruitt was taken to the hospital where he could not be revived and died at 6:30pm. Addis said his manner of death has been ruled accidental and a toxicology test will be performed.
