Memorial Day Observance planned in OC

On Monday for Memorial Day, Purple Heart recipient Cecil Sandifer of Westminster keynotes Oconee County’s observance. Sandifer is one of an estimated 100 surviving World War II veterans living in Oconee County. He is also a leader in business and civic fields, a former state lawmaker, and a former mayor. The noon ceremony takes place in the Walhalla Civic Auditorium. The community is encouraged to attend and show support to soldiers who paid the ultimate sacrifice for our country’s freedom. The Memorial Day observance will pay tribute to 210 local heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice during times of war.
