Mississippi wins Dixie Boys World Series

After a few postponements due to rain, the 2013 Dixie Boys World Series finally wrapped up Wednesday night and this year’s 13-14 year old champion is Mississippi.  Seneca Recreation Director Rick Lacey gives details. “Mississippi proved to be the best team, going through this tournament undefeated is a pretty good accomplishment; you don’t see that very much in the World Series.  Great pitching, great hitting and great coaching.” Lacey thanked his staff for all their hard work hosting the five-day tournament at the Shaver Recreation Complex in Seneca.  “We had over four and half inches of rain Tuesday night and then of course it rained all day Wednesday.  We were ready to go Wednesday morning at 10am and then the rain set in and we got another inch.  We jumped on the field, the staff I cannot say enough about them.  They sat here and were ready to go as soon as it quit raining, so we jumped on it around 4:30pm and we were ready to play around 6:20pm.  Again I can’t say enough about the crew, everybody with the Seneca Recreation Department, I would name names but I would leave out somebody, but I can’t say enough about our staff.” Work on the fields at the Shaver Recreation Complex began Wednesday morning around 6:30am and ended around 6pm, as crews had to soak up water left after torrential rains during the day.
