Moment of Silence in honor of 9/11 Victims

Today marks the 14th anniversary of the terrorists’ attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people in New York, Washington, DC and Pennsylvania. In October of 2001, September 11 was designated Patriot Day, a national day of mourning and reflection. As part of the observance of Patriot Day, Americans are encouraged to take a moment of silence at 8:46am. On Sept. 11, 2001, 2,977 people died after terrorists hijacked passenger jets and crashed them into both towers of the World Trade Center in New York, the Pentagon in Washington, DC and a Pennsylvania field. Many of the victims’ families will gather at New York’s ground zero this morning for the annual tradition of tolling bells, moments of silence and reading the names of those who died.
