More Companies looking to hire College Grads

According to a new CareerBuilder.com study, a majority of companies, 57%, are planning to hire recent college graduates this year. However, nearly one in four employers or 24% say they don’t feel that academic institutions are adequately preparing students for positions needed within their organizations. CareerBuilder’s Rosemary Haefner explains. “The majority of employers that we talked to said that there is just not enough real world learning that these individuals are bringing from the first day they start upon hire.” Haefner explains what qualifications employers would like new hires to have. “Definitely what we are seeing is that employers are looking for individuals that can understand business and so if you can bring that to the table you are going to be far more successful.” Employers claim there is a disconnect, adds Haefner. “Nearly a quarter of the employers that we talked to say that there is some disconnect they are seeing between the academic backgrounds that their entry level hires have and what they need in business.” Haefner explains what degrees are most attractive to employers. “Most in demand, not surprising, there is always a premium for individuals that have technical experience, engineering, computer science but we are also seeing a lot of employers, the vast majority looking for general business degrees.” To read the complete survey on what qualifications employers would like new hires to have, visit www.CareerBuilder.com.
