More discussions requested on Second Polling Location for Seneca

More discussions are set for the Seneca City Council regarding establishing a second polling location. At their special called meeting Tuesday night, the Seneca City Council debated plans about using both the Shaver Recreation Complex and the Gignilliat Community Center as voting locations, explains Seneca Mayor Pro-tem Ronnie O’Kelley. “The majority of the council is fine with having another location for the major national and state elections but their consensus was they would like to keep city elections at Shaver. Our elections are a lot smaller; a good year you could have 700 to 1,000 people. So, we don’t want to get to the point of confusing people. Our job is to make it easier for people to come out and vote. So, that was the beginning of a discussion of do we move or not, if we move do we move one or all. We still have to talk more with Oconee County Voter Registration and Elections Director Joy Scharich; she is a hard worker, dedicated and cares about the county, state, national and city elections. We want to work with her and talk with her a little more to come up with the best solutions for those elections. You don’t want people standing outside during election time wanting to get inside to vote, you want to encourage people to come vote, so we just want to make sure we get it right when we do something.” The Seneca City Council plans to hold another discussion about adding a second polling location at their next work session meeting scheduled for March.
