More People expected to travel this Labor Day Holiday

Millions of Americans are expected to travel this Labor Day holiday weekend. AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins says some 35.5 million of them will travel 50 miles or more from home. Thanks to low gas prices, the vast majority will be on the roads. “About 86% of those will be hitting the road, about 30.4 million Americans, that is actually the most auto travelers for Labor Day in seven years.” Jenkins says most of the road travelers will stay within a 500-mile radius of home. He credits an improved economy and the drop in oil prices with the increase in people traveling this year. “We are seeing increased wages, the housing market is stabilizing, but the biggest driver in more Americans taking a trip this year is gas prices being so low. We are forecasting the lowest gas prices for Labor Day in about a decade.” Jenkins says air travel will go up over the holiday weekend too. “We are seeing a slight increase in air travelers, about 1.5% or about 2.6 million Americans that is the most air travelers in about eight years.” With heavy traffic anticipated over the Labor Day weekend, Jenkins encourages everyone to slow down and use patients when traveling on roads.
