More SC Residents enrolling in Obamacare

More than 118,000 South Carolina residents found health insurance through a health insurance marketplace between October and mid-April, according to a new federal report. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services released state-by-state enrollment data Thursday for the exchanges created under the Affordable Care Act. While the number exceeds the 96,000 enrollees that the Department of Health and Human Services projected for South Carolina, state data shows more than 40% of customers had not paid for their first premium. The federal figures do not list how many enrollees have paid, but the Department of Insurance said it was about 67,000 people.  The report also stated that 28,000 people used the exchanges, but learned they were eligible for Medicaid instead. The Department of Health and Human Services said 88% of those who did sign up on the Healthcare.Gov website were eligible for federal subsidies.
