More Unmarked Graves Found At Clemson’s Woodland Cemetery

63 more unmarked graves were located at Woodland Cemetery on the grounds of Clemson University, thanks to ground penetrating radar. They are thought to be the final resting places of slaves, sharecroppers, laborers and even prisoners who worked on the Clemson College construction project between 1890 and 1915.

Clemson University is working with the local community to identify descendants of those people buried in the recently located graves. The University’s Board of Trustees said that a preservation plan is being created to protect, honor and respect those graves.
