Motorists being cautioned about driving in Winter Weather

It’s getting cold outside and the rain that is falling now could freeze overnight. With the winter weather, drivers are being encouraged to slow down and watch out, says Oconee County Emergency Services Deputy Chief of Special Operations Scott Krein. “We are going to see some slick roads and some mixed precipitation throughout the region, specifically in the mountain areas. We are going to have a little bit of snow, little bit of ice possibly on some of the bridges and as always when people are driving we remind them to please take a little more time, slow down a little bit, give yourself a little bit more distance between cars and as always just pay attention and be a little bit more vigilant of where and when you are going to drive.” Keep your lights and windshield clean and turn on your lights to make you visible to other motorists. When driving in adverse weather conditions, look farther ahead in traffic than you normally do. Actions by other vehicles will alert you to problems more quickly, and may give you a split-second of extra time to react appropriately. In addition, avoid using cruise control in winter driving conditions.
