Mountain Rest Larceny Investigation

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office is seeking the public’s help regarding an investigation into a larceny that occurred at a Mountain Rest business this past weekend.

The Sheriff’s Office is also seeking to identify two individuals in relation to the incident.

A deputy from the Uniform Patrol Division responded to the Dollar General location on Highlands Highway in Mountain Rest this past Saturday. The deputy spoke to the victim who stated that a black male wearing brown pants, a black hoodie, a black toboggan, a yellow traffic style vest and a disposable face mask, had gone into the office at the store and took a wallet out of a purse. The wallet contained, among other items, the victim’s driver’s license, bank cards and cash.

The individual in question appeared to act as a cigarette vendor and had an employee open the cigarette display. The subject walked out of the store with multiple packs of cigarettes.

A second black male came in at the same time in order to distract the cashier and later concealed a gray in color shirt inside of his sweatshirt and then walked out of the store.
