Multi-Alarm Fire at Clemson Ridge Apartments in Seneca

Firefighters in Seneca battled a large fire near the intersection of Wells Highway and Radio Station Road during the noon hour today. The fire was located at building 124 of the Clemson Ridge apartment complex, formerly known as Northwood apartments. Firefighters were able to contain the fire to one building.

“We had a few pets that we hadn’t accounted for. We were fortunate enough to go back in after we got the fire knocked down and even rescue the pets. We had one lab that was in one of the apartments on fire and he managed to be under a bed, and we pulled him out too,” Seneca Fire Chief Richie Caudill told reporters.

One firefighter was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The structure has collapsed, according to reports. Assistance has been provided from all available fire departments in Oconee County, as well as other help coming from both Pickens and Anderson Counties.

Investigators are working to determine what caused the blaze.

SDOC Associate Superintendent Steve Hanvey spoke with our sister station 101.7 WGOG’s Dick Mangrum and said Seneca High School was dismissed early today due to thru traffic being rerouted.
