Name of man shot by Anderson Deputy released

Anderson County officials have released the name of a man who was shot and killed by a sheriff’s deputy after pointing a gun at the officer. Anderson County Deputy Coroner Charlie Boseman announced that 45-year-old John Pepper died shortly before 4:30am Monday after he was shot in the chest. Anderson County Sheriff John Skipper said Pepper pointed a gun out of the window of a house early Monday and threatened deputies before he was shot. Sheriff Skipper said deputies had gone to Pepper’s home to check on him after someone called for help. The caller told deputies that Pepper was threatening to kill himself. The State Law Enforcement Division is investigating the shooting.
