National Average for Gas Hits $5 for First Time in US History

For the first time in the United States, the national average price for a gallon of gas is $5, according to both GasBuddy and AAA.

South Carolina’s current gas price average now sits at $4.60 per gallon. In North Carolina, motorists are paying $4.66 per gallon on average, and in Georgia gas prices are slightly cheaper following the suspension of the fuel tax there by Governor Brian Kemp. In Georgia, today’s average is at $4.43 per gallon of regular, with Hart County’s average at $4.33 the lowest in the area.

Today, according to AAA, Oconee County’s average price is $4.63, Anderson County’s average price is $4.60, and in Pickens County gas prices are averaging $4.57 today. Spokesperson for AAA Tiffany Wright said she doesn’t see prices dropping anytime soon, and she had a few tips to help you save fuel…

Others ways to save gas include shopping around for the best gas prices in your community. Pay with cash or debit. Some retailers charge extra per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card. And drive conservatively. Aggressive acceleration and speeding reduces fuel economy.
