NCAA settles Concussion Lawsuit

The NCAA has settled a class-action head injury lawsuit. The NCAA will create a $70 million fund to test current and former college athletes for brain injuries. Dr. Robert Cantu, a legal expert for the plaintiff side, said. “This is a big step forward for college athletes, male and female, that have had head trauma as a course of their athletic participation in college.” The settlement applies to multiple sports, including football, hockey, soccer, basketball, wrestling, field hockey and lacrosse. It establishes a process, adds Dr. Cantu. “Those that are systematic are going to be able to have a two step evaluation process to let them know whether they have suffered or seemed to have suffered some permanent injuries or things that need further treatment.” Under terms of the settlement, players will not get damages, but can use the results later as grounds for suing.
