New Development in Seneca House demolition case

A new development in the case to demolish a old house on South Oak Street in Seneca. It was originally reported that on Tuesday, Municipal Judge Danny Singleton re-instated his order to demolish the structure after the defendant failed to appear in court. The defendant had been given 30-days to put together a financial improvement plan. Seneca Planning and Development Director Ed Halbig said the defendant spoke to the judge late Tuesday and demolition has been delayed again. “The judge got with me and said that stuff had happened after court had ended on Tuesday. The defendant came in at 2pm and had information that there was an effort to put financing in place. We are obviously not going to rush demolition if they have a means to repair it. So, it is on hold while the court review the information that the defendant is providing.” The old home on South Oak Street, near the coroner of 3rd Street once belonged to Oconee County’s first African-American doctor.
