New GA Guide Stones Video of Suspect Released by GBI

A new video was released late last week by the GBI related to the Georgia Guide Stones explosion. The latest video shows someone running up to the monument, then quickly running away.

While the video is unclear, the GBI said that agents are working to actively identify the individual leaving the scene after the explosion.

District Attorney of the Northern Judicial Circuit in Elberton, Parks White, said that regardless of how people feel about the monument, “detonating a massive explosive device capable of shattering a granite tablet in an area surrounded by residences is a criminal act which placed many people in peril of serious injury.”

The monument was owned by the governing authority in Elbert County and that any structure open to the public is considered a public building. The penalty for destroying a public building with an explosive is a minimum of 20 years in prison without the possibility of parole.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation already has many leads, however, they asked that anyone with information please contact the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office at 706-283-2421 or the GBI Athens Office at 706-552-2309.
