New NICU at Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital

Prisma Health Oconee Memorial Hospital proudly inaugurated its new neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) this Tuesday. The Level 2 NICU, equipped with four beds, was made possible through the collective efforts of hospital staff, families, community members, and generous donors. This addition is a boon for Oconee County, allowing infants born prematurely or requiring specialized care to receive immediate attention locally. The facility is designed to cater to newborns from as early as 32 weeks gestational age, or those weighing less than 3.3 pounds. Previously, such cases necessitated birth at Greenville Memorial or an urgent transfer to Prisma Health Children’s Hospital in Greenville. Oconee Memorial, which welcomes approximately 550 newborns annually, has witnessed the community’s overwhelming support, contributing over $200,000 towards advanced equipment for the unit.
