New Post 124 Legion Building

The Walhalla American Legion Post #124 unveils the design of its new post home, to be constructed on two and half acres at 225 Kenneth Street in Walhalla adjacent to the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office. The property was donated to the local veterans organization by the Golden Corner church family. The new structure, designed by McKibben Archetects, LLC of Seneca will accommodate up to 150 seated people when completed. Jerry Dyar, spokesman for Post #124 said, “Our building committee headed up by Jack Arve hopes to have a ground-breaking ceremony sometime in August with construction to begin shortly thereafter”. The building will be constructed “mostly” by legion member volunteers. Dyar said, “Our fundraising effort is coming along nicely as we have had tremendous community support but we still need more funding. Anyone interested in making a tax deductible donation may contact me at 723-5501 or Rick Gibson at 647-0747. It is hoped that many organizations around the community will be able to use our new building for meetings, family get togethers, birthday parties, wedding receptions, etc. We want the new Post #124 meeting hall to be an attractive and helpful addition to the Walhalla community.”
