New SC Law protects against Home Repair Scams

A new state law is aimed at protecting residents of the Palmetto State from home repair scams. The National Insurance Crime Bureau says contractors have been going door-to-door soliciting business, then not completing the work. Now, if you enter into a contract with a residential roofer, you have the power to cancel it within five days. In addition, contractors now have to do the work before they are paid.  It is illegal for contractors to accept up front payments. Contracts under the new law are not allowed to handle the insurance claim on your behalf as well.
