New Video highlights Seneca Award

For being the first city in the country with an all-electric, fare-free bus system, the City of Seneca received an Achievement Award. Five electric buses replaced the city’s diesel buses that were polluting the air. A video, now featured on the city’s website at www.seneca.sc.us, tells the story of these new all-electric buses, explains Seneca City Administrator Greg Dietterick. “That award came from the Municipal Association and it was for public service. It talks about our electric buses being the only all-electric system in the world that is totally electric, it is a fare-free system and its zero emission. If you go to our website, you will see our award, it’s a big silver trophy from the Municipal Association of South Carolina and the video is at the bottom of that. You can play it and see the presentation that was given to the Municipal Association. They actually made that video in order for us to advertise this and tell the world about what is going on here in Seneca.” You may see a few familiar faces on that video as local residents served as extra during filming earlier this year. By switching to an all-electric system, Seneca is saving $45,000 in diesel costs. The buses haves also eliminated the emission of 640 tons of greenhouse gases annually.
