Nine killed on SC Highways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces nine people killed on state roadways over the weekend.  As of May 11, 248 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 251 highway deaths during the same time period in 2013. Locally, Oconee County reports five highway deaths in 2014 compared to one in 2013.  Pickens County lists four in 2014 and 8 in 2013.  Anderson County has experienced 10 highway fatalities in 2014 compared to 11 in 2013 at this same time.  Of the 184 motor vehicle occupants who have died in 2014, 95 were not wearing seat belts. These numbers are preliminary and are based on fatal collisions compiled by the South Carolina Department of Public Safety as of midnight May 11, 2014.
