Nine killed on SC Roadways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports nine people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Aug. 30, there have been 612 fatalities on South Carolina highways, compared to 514 highway deaths during the same period in 2014. In the tri-county area of the Upstate, Anderson County lists 22 highway deaths in 2015 compared to 25 in 2014. Oconee County reports 11 in 2015 and 7 in 2014. Pickens County has experienced 11 highway fatalities in 2015 compared to eight in 2014 at this same time. Of the 412 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2015, 209 were not wearing seat belts. Through midnight Aug. 30, 67 pedestrians have died compared to 56 in 2014; 93 motorcyclists have died compared to 63 in 2014; and 12 bicyclist has died compared to 8 in 2014 on state roads and highways.
