Nine killed on SC Roadways over weekend

The South Carolina Department of Public Safety announces nine people were killed on state roadways over the weekend. As of Feb. 26, 2017, 136 people have died on South Carolina highways, compared to 135 highway deaths during the same time period in 2016. Locally, the South Carolina Department of Public Safety reports eight deaths each of the past two years at this time in Anderson County. Pickens County lists one in 2017 compared to two in 2016 at this same time. Oconee County has experienced two traffic deaths in 2017 compared to four in 2016. Of the 107 motor vehicle occupants who have died statewide in 2017, 57 were not wearing safety belts. Through midnight Feb. 26, 15 pedestrians have died compared to 17 in 2016; eight motorcyclists have died compared to 14 in 2016; and two bicyclists have died compared to five in 2016 on state roadways.
