Nix retiring as OC Auditor on June 30

Oconee County’s auditor for the last seven years, Ken Nix announces that he will leave office June 30, which is a year short of his full term that expires June 30, 2017. Nix says he is now at full retirement age and looks forward to spending time with his family and doing things he’s never had the time for previously. Nix says he leaves his office in good hands. Under state code, Christy Hubbard, chief deputy auditor, is designated as the interim replacement. Hubbard is running unopposed as a ballot candidate this year for the office, for a term to start July 1, 2017 and finish June 30, 2021. In a statement Nix said, “I have enjoyed serving the citizens of Oconee County and thank them for supporting me for the past seven years. In these seven years I assisted with correcting issues with the conversion of real property accounts from the Assessor files to the Auditor files and for the past five years we have had seamless conversions assuring accuracy and efficiency. This process is required as the Auditor generates the tax notices for more than 62,000 real property taxpayers each year. Customer service has improved due to office structure redesign and departmental costs have been held to a minimum as well as enhancements to our processes to include assisting countless numbers of citizens to make sure their property was correctly taxed as well as doing the best job we could do to make sure every taxpayer was treated fairly and equally under state law. I leave the office in good hands as Mrs. Christy Hubbard, Chief Deputy Auditor, is designated under Code Section 12-39-40 as interim replacement as Oconee County Auditor. She is also running unopposed for the November election for the term of July 1, 2017 to June 30, 2021. Mrs. Hubbard is extremely knowledgeable of the duties and responsibilities of this office and will be able to assume those duties without any problem whatsoever.”
