Northside Elementary Students participate in Science Fair

Northside Elementary School in Seneca sent their top ten annual science fair winners to participate in the SWU Regional Science Fair on March 14.  The students were joined with other students from Oconee, Pickens, and Anderson counties who are equally interested in science.  Fourth graders representing Northside Elementary were Riya Naik, Justin Rochester, Aiden Sullivan, Brianna Thomason and Nayelli Washington.  From the fifth grade, Gunnison Alexander, Jazmine Hughes, Lauren Gatten, Lauren Rochester and Mason Treadway. Congratulations to Northside Elementary and the winners from their school.  In fourth grade physical science, Aiden Sullivan took second place and received $30.  In fourth grade biological science, Brianna Thomason won first place and took home $50.  Classmate Riya Naik took second place and received $30.  All the winners also received plaques toting their accomplishments.  The Overall Engineering Award went to fifth grader Gunnison Alexander.  She received $100 and the BorgWarner winner’s cup.  Alexander was recognized as the Overall Engineering Award winner for her project that tests the strength of popular wood glues.  She built standard wood joints of the same type of wood but with different types of glue.  She then tested to see how much mass each could support.
