Oak Tree in Memorial Stadium to be removed

A large white oak tree in Memorial Stadium is dying, so Clemson University plans to remove the safety hazard. Following the 2015 football season, Clemson University will plant a bald cypress to replace the white oak in the southeast corner of the lower seating bowl. According to the university arborist, university landscape services and an external consultant, the root system of the large white oak tree was severely damaged during construction many years ago and has been declining ever since. Clemson Athletics will work with university facilities to remove the dying tree and secure the area prior to kickoff of the next home football game on Oct. 3.
