OC announces Annual Tornado Poster Contest

Oconee County Emergency Services is once again sponsoring the annual Tornado Safety Poster Contest. The contest is open to all students in grades one through six in any Oconee County school. There will be winners and runners-up at each grade level and a grand prizewinner. A committee of judges will choose winners from each grade level during the period of February 11-15. Schools with winners will be notified during Severe Weather Awareness Week, March 3-9, and certificates and cash prizes will be awarded in March. Entries should be submitted on standard poster paper (22” x 28”). The student’s name, grade level and school name should be clearly printed in ink on the back of the poster for easy identification. Only one entry per student and no joint entries (by more than one person) will be accepted. Entries will not only be judged on the artistic aspect, but must also emphasize the theme of “Tornado Safety” by depicting proper protective actions. Each entry will be judged on originality, message, impact, and effort. Schools are encouraged to participate. However, any eligible student may submit an entry regardless of whether his or her school officially participates in the contest. Entries should be submitted to the Office of Emergency Services no later than February 1, 2013.
