OC Chamber establishing Member Committees

To generate more involvement, the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce is establishing member-based committees, explains executive director Jillian Lusk.  “Right now we are in the process of launching a series of committees.  These are going to be membership-based committees, any member who is a part of the chamber is able to jump on any and all of them that they would like to and give us some opinions and help us kind of build our program for the next couple of years.” Right now, the chamber has three committees in mind.  The first is a membership committee, explains Lusk.  “We are going to have a membership committee.  We want to know, not only how to get new members and how to make sure the members we have are happy but to make sure we are addressing the businesses needs, so that is really going to be what that committee focuses on.” The second committee would focus on advocacy, tells Lusk. “We are also going to launch an advocacy committee because the business community needs some support and we want to make sure we are looking at any business issue that would affect them.  So, that group will be doing that and also probably working on a little bite of economic development issues as well.” The third committee would be responsible for marketing and events, explains Lusk.  “Then we will have a marketing and events committee.  Many people know that we have about five large events every year that are planned by committees.  So, it will help kind of govern a structure that they can work under and then also make sure we are marketing ourselves, as the chamber well but then we are also marketing all of our members well.” If you are a member of the Oconee County Chamber of Commerce and would like to serve on one of these new committees, call the chamber at 864-882-2097.
