OC Farm designated SC Century Farm

A farm in Oconee County has earned an illustrious distinction.  The South Carolina Century Farms Program announces that the William A. Taylor Farm in Oconee County has been designated a Century Farm. Vicki Fletcher, Executive Director of the Pendleton District Commission serving Anderson, Oconee, and Pickens counties gives details.  “The Pendleton District Commission is the steward for the Century Farm Program for the entire state of South Carolina.  Farms must prove to us that the same family has owned them for 100 years or more and the Taylor family has held this tract of land, most of it, for 108 years now.  They bought it in 1905 and it was purchased by William A. Taylor and it is now owned by Edgar and Anna Taylor Zelaya.  We are just very pleased to welcome them to the Century Farm Program.” The Century Farms Program was created in 1974 for Anderson, Oconee and Pickens counties. In 1976, the South Carolina Legislature expanded it into a statewide program. Since 1974, over 350 properties have been designated as Century Farms. This designation places no restrictions on the farm. There is no cost to apply. For more information, contact Century Farms Coordinator Les McCall at 864-646-3782.
