OC Firefighters conduct Rural Water Shuttle Training

Saturday morning, five volunteer fire stations on the south side of Oconee County participated in a rural water supply exercise. The event included 30 responders from the Oakway, Crossroads, Friendship, South Union and Townville Fire Stations. The drill was conducted to prepare responders to work together to successfully deliver water in areas where fire hydrants are scarce. Firefighters were able to sustain more than 500 gallons per minute of flow by utilizing 5 “tanker” trucks with 2,000 gallon of water each to transfer water over the 1.5 mile distance.  The stations will also utilize this drill in preparing for an upcoming Insurance Services Organization evaluation of Oconee County’s fire protection capability.
