OC Firefighters participate in Training Event

Fire Departments in Oconee County and across the Upstate participated in training Sunday as part of a two-day series on rural water supply. The training teaches firefighters how to deliver large quantities of water to an emergency scene in a rural setting or a disaster where water systems may be inoperable. Oconee County depends on the use of tanker trucks to deliver the water needed to fight the majority of fires in the area. The goal of the training was to flow 1,000 gallons of water per minute delivered over two miles. The exercise ran between the county’s South Cove Park and Cane Creek boat landing, both off Keowee School Road. Residents in the area received notification of the training event through a “reverse 911” call to make them aware of large apparatus traveling in their area.
