OC Hazmat Team responds to Garbage Truck Fire

A large cloud of black smoke could be seen emanating from the City of Seneca Monday afternoon after a garbage truck caught fire. According to the Oconee County Hazmat Team’s Facebook page, crews assisted the Seneca Fire Department after a city front loader garbage truck caught fire just before noon on Julian Drive. No one was hurt in the fire. The Oconee County Hazmat Team was able to prevent 75 gallons of hydraulic oil from getting into a nearby stream; however, the oil did leak on the ground. The City of Seneca provided sand and cleaned up the surrounding area. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
