OC Libraries having Fun with STEAM

The Oconee County Public Library is having fun with STEAM. By integrating science, technology, engineering, arts, and math into fun programs, the local library is launching students on a pathway of learning that focuses on logical reasoning, critical thinking, collaboration, and investigation, explains Oconee County Public Library Branch Services Librarian Blair Hinson. “Our Youth Services Librarian Stacie Powell has been working with some of the teachers in the Oconee County system as well as some of the folks from Clemson University. Right now this whole STEAM, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math are big things and we also have received a grant from the South Carolina State Library through the Services and Technology Act.” In addition to already incorporating many elements of STEAM into children and teen programs, the Oconee County Public Library offers STEAM opportunities to patrons through the “STEAM-driven” Summer Camp. A Library Services and Technology Act grant from the Institute of Museum and Library Services administered by the South Carolina State Library generously support this STEAM initiative.
