OC Officials urge Flood Preparation

More rain is expected in the Upstate of South Carolina over the next few days.  With record amounts of rain already received in this area this summer, saturated ground could give way increasing the likely of flooding.  Oconee County Emergency officials are urging people to prepare in advance of flooding.  Oconee County Sheriff’s Office Public Information Officer Jimmy Watt offers this advice to residents and especially motorists.  “I can’t ever remember a time when I have seen this much rain especially during the summer but it really speaks to some things that people can do as precautions.  Number one, if you don’t have one but yourself a weather alert radio, those things are fantastic to have.  They some radios now where you can program them for specific warnings and watches for your county.  If there is a flash flood warning that is issued in your area, if you are in a low lying area get to higher ground.  If you happen to drive across a roadway that appears to be flooded, don’t drive across that roadway.  Moving water has a tremendous amount of force and power.  Turn around don’t drown.” Stay tuned to 103.3FM and 1150AM WSNW for breaking weather alerts and use caution when traveling in the Upstate during these anticipated storms.
