OC ranked 27th Top Performing Micropolitan

Oconee County has been named one of the top micropolitan areas in the United States.  According to Site Selection Magazine’s 2014 list of top micropolitans, the Seneca micropolitan is ranked 27th out of the 576 micropolitan areas in the nation as identified by the US Census Bureau. Micropolitan areas are considered non-urban communities anchored by a town of no more than 50,000 people. The prestigious magazine based their results on the number of economic development projects in the area during the 2013 year. “Our community had one of the most active economic development years in 2013 with six total project announcements and of those, four qualified for this ranking,” said Richard K. Blackwell, executive director of the Oconee Economic Alliance. “This is further evidence that this is a great place to live, work, play and invest.” This is not the first time Oconee County has been recognized as a top micropolitan.  In 2012, the Seneca micropolitan was ranked 45th.  Site Selection is an award-winning economic development magazine that delivers expansion-planning information to thousands of corporate executives, facility planners and site selectors of rapidly growing firms across the nation.
