OC Sheriff gives update on Detention Center

With construction well underway on the new Oconee County Detention Center, Sheriff Mike Crenshaw answers a question that has arisen concerning the projected height of the new jail, which is scheduled to open in the summer of 2015. “I have received some questions regarding what the height will be of the new Detention Center and I wanted to alleviate any concerns that citizens may have, especially those who live nearby,” says Sheriff Crenshaw. “After speaking with officials and the project manager of the construction site, I have been told that once completed, the height of the new jail will actually be lower than the current Oconee County Law Enforcement Center.” The new Oconee County Detention Center will be a two-story facility with 200 beds but with the capability to increase to 240 beds in emergency situations. Everything will be enclosed, including the recreation areas for inmates. The new jail is being constructed on land between the Law Enforcement Center and Westview Cemetery.
