OC Sheriff receives Grant for Elementary Drug Prevention Program

The Oconee County Sheriff’s Office has received a $1,000 grant from State Farm Insurance for its elementary school drug prevention program. Oconee County Sheriff Mike Crenshaw received a letter from State Farm notifying him of the grant award. The $1,000 check was enclosed with this letter: “Our vision statement is building partnerships to promote a safer community and one of our great partnerships has been with State Farm,” says Sheriff Crenshaw. “State Farm has been a great neighbor to us at the Sheriff’s Office and we are excited and proud to be a recipient of this grant. We appreciate State Farm being there for the children of Oconee County.” The money will be used to buy drug education materials that will be given to children in our elementary schools to warn them of the dangers of drug abuse, which is a part of Corporal Charles Mulwee’s role, who works with many at risk children in elementary schools. “The students love when I come by to speak and bring them something, such as a pencil or coloring book and it helps them to focus and pay attention,” says Corporal Mulwee. “They look forward when I come to visit them and I think the program is going great and I am thankful to be a part of it.”
